“The Legacy Tree: A Christian Model for a Life of Significance” is Cecil Taylor Ministries’ first video series – and it’s an ambitious one! Ambitious in scope, ambitious in depth, ambitious in its goal to help you give your life significant meaning.

“The Legacy Tree”  uses the metaphor of trees to illustrate how we can change our lives to create significance for God’s kingdom. It’s a non-denominational Christian discipleship model for moving us from a success track to a significance track. We can develop our lives to be more meaningful for ourselves and for others.

In the forest, the legacy trees are the older, more mature trees that are able to nurture the trees around them. That is what we want to model in the “human forest,” becoming legacy trees that provide for others as Jesus intended in his commandment to “love your neighbor.” And Jesus is our role model for significance, guiding us to become legacy trees through his teaching and his example.

But to become a legacy tree requires some consideration. The first module of four lessons, “What the Tree Is,” is about how you define yourself. These lessons guide you through questions such as:

  • Who are you?
  • What do you stand for?
  • What do you have to offer to the world?
  • How do you decide to apply your unique talents, gifts, interests and passions, and how does the Holy Spirit guide you in your decision-making?
  • What does Jesus value, and how did Jesus answer the questions above during his time on earth?

The second module of four lessons, “What the Tree Provides,” is about how you give yourself. These lessons introduce a model called The Pyramid of Providing. This model helps you to discern the following:

  • What are the ways in which you can provide to the world?
  • How do you prioritize the various opportunities that come your way?
  • What type of opportunities should you do the most? The least? Which ones create the most significance? And what personal investment is required?
  • What does it look like to serve the world in the Pyramid of Providing model?

It takes a lot of energy to be a legacy tree! So the third module of four lessons, “What the Tree Needs,” considers how you take care of yourself, addressing topics such as:

  • How do you rest? What does rest look like for you individually?
  • How do you replenish youself?
  • How do you say “yes” and “no” to opportunities to serve?
  • What gets you up in the morning? What is it that drives you to serve again and again?

“The Legacy Tree” is almost four hours of video spread across 12 lessons that can be viewed in three modules of four lessons each. In that way, classes and small groups can choose to either (a) break things up, watching a module over four weeks and coming back later to view other modules, or (b) view the entire series in 12 consecutive sessions.

The series includes an extensive Leaders Guide with questions and ideas. Your purchase also offers a way for participants to dig deeper by optionally answering daily questions to determine how to apply the Legacy Tree model to their own lives.
